A Festival without an Event

A thread of affection brought
To be tied as a token
Just as a token taken
In a room, alone to invent
The presence of the person absent
My fingers do the job of tying
With difficulty, I took a selfie
To sent it through WhatsApp
And to put up on the F/B
To make my sisters feel happy!

That I did- the ritual without retreats,
Flowers, roli , akshat and sweets!
At home, back at home,
Even with difficulty we meet
Distances are impossible
To traverse every year
But the bond feels nearer
There is a festive mood
Not that we sit alone and brood!

But what about those whom
I have never met but
Feel the bond abloom
In this lonesome room
And help remove the gloom
Of the day!

Rakhi is not only for siblings
But it is also about feelings!
It is not about family ties and blood relations
But about respecting another being beyond rationalizations
Who is as precious as your own sister!
Born of another mother, nevertheless
I missed her, as my own sister!

A Grammar of Growing Up

Days go with you and bid goodbye
Hours slide down and die
And drape down
The innocence of the Noun!

With the experience of Adverbs
Of place, time and frequency, the Verbs
Replace the endearing use of Nouns
(Slowly moving from lisping sounds )
To the stable use of personal Pronouns!

Individuality stands alone keeping the Subject alone
Sometimes with a defiant adolescent tone
Distractions, doubts in the use of Determiners
A shaky ground for the beginners!

Disagreement with the Subject-Verb agreement begins
Early during this period and lurks within, and at times springs
With the Nouns like mathematics, rhetorics and news
Without any tension to meddle in don’ts and dos!

What I wish to say in a few sentences
Is not enough about life’s infinite time and tenses!
To deconstruct the grammar of growing up is not enough
As adolescence is a diamond in the rough;

It is a living discourse; both simple and tough
Ironical, unpredictable, surprising, puzzling stuff
Needs patience, pardon, perseverance and fun
To handle its substance for every daughter and son!

Destination: Retreat

Houses are built
Homes are made
They are time-constructs:
Segmented, particularized,
Populated in a particular period!

Time’s masons demolish them
After the slow, unnoticed complacencies
Of  dilapidations – to renovate, to re-build
The  crumbling boundaries
Making the world open once again!

For you - you have – to try
For a new beginning,
With a renewed feelings
Of homeness you depart
 Leaving behind

Flowers  that Time
Will never wilt!

Destination: Experience

The time-horse
With the downcast eyes
And  a  face sad
Carrying Barbies
On his back
Moving slowly
When forced

To take them

From the valley
Where   flowers
Enjoyed the bliss of freedom
To the land where
Innocence  is shocked
By the experience of fetters
With wide-eyed bewilderment
And confusion!
